Dr. Sara Michel

Patent Attorney

Dr. Sara Michel studied nutritional sciences at the University of Hohenheim with a focus on biochemistry and clinical nutrition. She supplemented her education with a research stay at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Seattle, USA). During her graduate studies at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) and the University of Heidelberg, Sara was awarded a three year scholarship from the Helmholtz International Graduate School for Cancer Research. In her PhD thesis, she focused on immunological mechanisms in colorectal cancer development.

Following her graduate studies, Sara began her career in intellectual property law in 2010 and was trained as a patent attorney at a renowned Munich patent law firm specializing in biotechnology, the German Patent and Trade Mark Office and the Federal Patent Court in Munich. With a strong background in biotechnology, pharmaceutics and molecular diagnostics, a focus of her work is on patent prosecution, opposition and nullity proceedings and on the assessment of validity questions. Sara is experienced in managing patent portfolios for national and international clients and has particular expertise in conducting proceedings before the European Patent Office.
